Target Audience
This course is designed for orthopedists and orthopedic surgeons.
Learning Objectives*
At the conclusion of this activity, attendees should be able to:
- Evaluate strategies for the management of total joint replacement in younger and older patients and to minimize and recognize surgical complications.
- Review and critique current treatment options (arthroscopic and open) for sports-related and knee, shoulder, and elbow injuries.
- Summarize preferred surgical approaches for joint replacement, knee ligamentous reconstruction, shoulder stabilization, and the preferred use of arthroscopic applications.
- Define surgical and nonoperative approaches for common knee injuries.
- Review current approaches to patellofemoral, meniscal, and articular cartilage surgery.
- Evaluate current approaches to minimize and manage postoperative thromboembolic disease and infection.
- Review latest applications and treatment options for fractures around the shoulder, elbow, knee and hip in active patients.
- Assess current surgical approaches and newer concepts for total knee and hip arthroplasty.
- Discuss patient care and treatment strategies to improve efficiency and patient outcomes in private practice.
- Diagnose sports-related neurologic injuries such as pinched nerves and concussions and determine the necessary steps for treatment and return to play.
